Blepharoplasty

Another consequence of the gradual effect of gravity on the face is the soft tissues around the eyes begin changing, and in some ways, become more prominent. Bags under the eyes are more pronounced, skin overhangs on the upper eyelids, and upper and lower eyelids lose their definition. Procedures known as blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) can markedly enhance and redefine the eyelids, and remove the unwanted bulges that appear around the eyes. The beauty of these procedures is that all incision lines can be camouflaged in the patient’s own skin. These procedures can be performed in the office setting with or without intravenous anesthesia. Speak with Dr. Kim about the options to correct the aged facial appearance.

Photos can be viewed below from several of Dr. Kim‘s patients showing before their procedures and the results after the blepharoplasty procedures. The results of the first patients are shown 6 weeks after their procedures. Results of eyelid surgery are long lasting as seen in the last patient below.  The photo documents results two years since the blepharoplasty procedure.

One of Dr Kim’s patients gave  this review:

I have wanted to get an eyelid lift (upper and lower) for years and am so glad I chose Dr. Kim for this! I had consults at other offices but just did not feel comfortable with any of them. Dr. Kim is clearly very interested in providing the best possible, natural-looking results for his patients. He patiently listened to all of my concerns and answered my questions. The results are fantastic! I have been told I look 20 years younger (that has to be an exaggeration for sure). The before and after care instructions were quite detailed so there was no mystery as to what I should do or not do. I followed the instructions carefully and am happy to say I finally look like the person I feel I am. The office staff members are so wonderful that it makes me want to work there too. There is no doubt that Dr. Kim has the skills and desire to provide the best results – I would recommend him to everyone. It definitely was a worthwhile investment!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the incisions made? Incisions are placed in natural creases in the skin for both upper and lower eyelid surgeries.

How long is the procedure? The blepharoplasty procedure will be done in the office operatory located in the 7155 Turner Road office. This procedure takes approximately 1 hour to complete for an upper eyelid lift and an hour for a lower lift.

What can be expected after the procedure? Patients report very little pain after the eyelid procedure. The most common complaint is bruising and swelling following the procedure. The postoperative instructions contain details that will accelerate your healing time and maximize your surgical outcome.

I wear contact lenses, will I be able to wear them following the surgery? Glasses may be worn, but contact lenses may NOT be worn for two weeks following your surgery.

When can I begin wearing eye makeup/cosmetics? You will need to wait for 3 to 4 weeks after the surgery to begin applying cosmetics round your eyes.

How long will I need to alter my normal routine? You have just undergone a surgical procedure. You will need to restrict your normal actives, exercise regimens and any activity involving heavy lifting or straining for a period of time. It is acceptable to do some light walking 72 hours after your surgery. Avoid bending over sharply, performing any strenuous exercise or lifting heavy object for at least one week following surgery.

How about driving? You will need someone to drive you home from the surgical procedure. You will also need to refrain from driving for as long as you are taking prescription pain medications.

What can I do to ensure the best result? There are several things that you can do to prepare for a successful surgery. If you smoke you should not smoke four (4) weeks before your eyelid surgery and four (4) weeks after the eyelid surgery. If you consume alcohol you should not consume any one (1) week prior and for one (1) week following your blepharaplasty. Do not attempt to lose weight in the two (2) weeks prior to surgery. Proper nutrition is essential for correct healing. A list of recommended supplements can be found on the Surgical Instructions site, Pre-Operative Instructions for Facial Cosmetic Surgery.

Will insurance cover a blepharoplasty? Your insurance company may pay for part or all of the cost of surgery if the procedure is performed as a result of visual impairment. Because every insurance carrier is different, it is recommended that you check with your own insurance company to determine the level of coverage.
