Post Operative Instructions for Facial Cosmetic Surgery
The following instructions apply to patients who have undergone facial cosmetic surgery (facelift, necklift, browlift). Since no two patients are ever exactly alike in their surgical needs or rates of healing, we may elect to individualize the following guidelines for each patient. In such instances, we will instruct you as to the changes we make. Otherwise, we urge you to follow the provided postoperative advice very carefully in order to accelerate your healing time and maximize your surgical outcome.
- You have just undergone a surgical procedure. Please use common sense for several weeks following your surgery by restriction your normal activities, exercise regimens and any activity involving heavy lifting or straining. It is acceptable to do some light walking 72 hours after your surgery. Jogging and light non-contact exercise should not be resumed until at least three (3) weeks after surgery. Strenuous sports will require at least six (6) weeks of recovery time before they can be safely resumed.
- When you move, stand or change positions, do so deliberately and carefully for the first seven (7) days. In turning your head, move shoulders and head as single unit.
- You may be up and around the day after surgery but some natural fatigue may persist for two to three days due to the effects of the anesthesia and the procedure itself. This is a normal reaction of the body following a procedure of this type.
- Following the surgery, there will be a large bulky dressing placed over your entire head and face. We will change this dressing at 24 and 48 hours postoperatively. We will provide you with a special “face lift garment” that is to be worn at night for two (2) weeks following the surgery.
