Meet Dr. Schmid
Dr. Richard Schmid grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he graduated with honors from Andover High School. He went to Michigan State University, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology, followed by earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. After practicing three years of general dentistry, Dr. Schmid returned to pursue specialty training by earning certificates in oral and maxillofacial surgery from both the Detroit Macomb Hospital Association and Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
Dr. Schmid has been in private practice in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since 1983 in Melbourne, Florida. During his career he has earned board certification status as a Diplomate of both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He has published articles within the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and for 18 years served as Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Holmes Regional Medical Center. Dr. Schmid has also served as a former president of the Brevard County Dental Society.
Dr. Schmid is a specialty provider for the Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine, the Brevard County Health Department, as well as other community outreach programs. Additionally Dr. Schmid and his wife, Donna, a registered nurse, perform volunteer medical mission work in Ecuador with the Christian organization, Servants in Faith and Technology (SIFAT)
Dr. Schmid and Donna have raised five children between them, and just this month welcomed their second grandchild. In his spare time Dr. Schmid is an avid skier who has conquered slopes all over the world. He has served as a past president of the Space Coast Ski and Travel Club and enjoys swimming, working out, and spending time with family.
